Principal's Letter

July 2014

Dear Parent or Guardian:

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Haledon Public School for the 2014-2015 school year. Here is a little about me and my background: I am in my fifteenth year as an educator, with a specific concentration in mathematics and literacy development.  My most recent administrative experience has been as a Middle School Principal in New York City. Prior to my experience as a Principal, I was an Assistant Principal and a Math Teacher. I am originally from Buffalo, New York. I am married and have two sons, who are ten and eight years old. I am elated to bring my skills as an educational leader to Haledon and to work with you as a partner in education to ensure your child’s success.

Along with staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at Haledon by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners. We will focus on 21st Century skills, fostering a nurturing safe environment for our scholars, use of data to inform instruction, Gradual Release of Responsibility (focused lesson, guided instruction, collaborative learning and independent tasks), learning to a mastery level and providing exciting, challenging enrichment opportunities for all students. Each decision made will be the best decision for the scholars.

I anticipate a most successful year as my team and I support the academic, social, and emotional growth of your scholar here at Haledon Public School.

During the course of the year, it is my hope that we will work together to provide the scholars of Haledon the best possible opportunities in preparing them to be world class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st Century with a solid foundation created here at our school. As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to call and make an appointment to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this the best year yet!

As a reminder, the first day of school is Wednesday, September 3, 2014. I look forward to working with you and your scholar.

In partnership,

Mr. Robert Parkes

Principal
