Haledon Public School District -

Dr. Richard Ney was appointed Superintendent for the Haledon Public School District and the Manchester Regional High School District as of September 1, 2010. A native of Pleasantville, New Jersey, Dr. Ney received a B.A. from Westminster Choir College, an M.B.A. from Drexel University and an Ed.D. from Liberty University. He began his teaching career in 1972 at the Hammonton Junior – Senior High School where he taught music and also managed the New Jersey All-State Chorus and Orchestra. In 1977 he took a hiatus from teaching for a stint in private industry where he assumed various management positions for Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Cola, South Jersey (natural) Gas Company, Philadelphia Gas Works and the Suburban Propane Company which he helped take public in 1996. Dr. Ney found an opportunity to return to his passion for education in 1998 when he taught 5^th, 6^th, 7^th and 8^th grades in Middlesex, New Jersey. He came to Manchester Regional High School to teach business and technology in 2000.  He was appointed departmental supervisor in 2002 and Principal in 2004. During his tenure, he played a major role in Manchester becoming a Renaissance School in 2001, for receiving the Best Practices Award in 2003, removing the school from the schools in need of improvement list in 2004, and becoming a New Jersey Choice School in 2005. Accomplishments also include partnering with Passaic County Community College to offer students college credit for high school courses in 2006 and Manchester being included in U.S. News and World Report’s list of America’s Best High Schools in 2010. He is further pleased that Manchester Regional High School has been recognized natonally as an academic institution and statewide for its school to careers program. He hopes to build upon these successes at both Haledon Public School and Manchester Regional High School as he tackles the budget challenge facing all New Jersey public schools.
