Sources of Strength

Sources of Strength (SOS) is a suicide prevention program that recruits positive student role models identified and recommended by HPS staff members.  The selected student members are trained to serve as peer leaders within the school community, spreading messages of hope, optimism and support to friends, classmates and peers of all ages. During training, student members become familiarized with the 8 identified areas (medical access, mental health, family support, positive friends, mentors, healthy activities, generosity and spirituality) from which we seek strength in times of need. Upon completion of training, peer leaders apply their newly acquired knowledge and skills to identify sources of strength in their own lives and to brainstorm ways in which SOS can provide outreach to the school community.
