Guidance

Overview of program

The counseling program is available to help you and your child have a successful school year.  Our two full-time school counselors work with the parents and students in many ways, from peer mediation to crisis intervention.  Each service is aimed to assist children in learning and developing to their highest potential.  Some of the services in the school counseling program are:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group counseling
  • Parent and teacher consultation
  • Information services
  • Referral assistance to other programs and services in the community
Red Ribbon Week
Every October, Red Ribbon Week is recognized by schools across the nation in order to spread the message about the dangers of drug use. The Guidance Office coordinates this week long celebration and arranges activities and presentations for students, staff, and parents.
Peer Mediation
In an effort to curb school violence, HPS has implemented a school wide violence prevention program centered around peer mediation.  Selected students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are trained as peer mediators to help students resolve conflicts and communicate their feelings in a positive way.
