Superintendent - Dr. Mary Flora Malyska

Dr. Mary Flora Malyska is an accomplished educational leader and researcher with twenty years of public education experience, specializing in systemic equity, district-wide curriculum design, and strategic operations. She is incredibly honored to take on her next chapter as the new Superintendent for the Haledon School District, and she looks forward to leading the district when she steps into the role this August.

 

As the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for South Plainfield Public Schools, Dr. Malyska directed instructional programming, student-centered initiatives, professional development, and staff evaluation systems, along with other district-level responsibilities. Notably, she secured numerous competitive grants while managing compliance for non-competitive fiscal allocations. An active champion for inclusive learning environments, Dr. Malyska holds a PhD in Urban Systems with a concentration in Educational Policy from Rutgers University–Newark, where her research explored the impact of digital literacy skills and curriculum design on state assessment results. She also holds an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Montclair State University. By bridging academic research with practical district administration, Dr. Malyska builds resilient, data-informed school systems that support the holistic growth of every student.

 

Beyond her administrative and research work, Dr. Malyska is a long-time resident of Essex County, where she lives with her family. She is happily married and the proud mother of two daughters who are rising seventh and eighth graders. Outside of her professional commitments, she is a dedicated volunteer with Toni’s Kitchen, where she supports local food security initiatives. An avid animal lover, her home is completed by her family's two dogs and cat.
