Principal's Message

 

   

Dear Haledon Public School Parents and Community Members,

 

 

 

 

We are very excited to begin our 2019-2020 school year at HPS!  Our first day of school for students will be on Thursday, September 5^th.  I hope that this summer break has been great for all of our students, and I also hope that they are as excited to begin the school year as we are.  In addition to all of the tremendous programs we offer to students there is one major initiative that we have planned for the upcoming school year that I would like to bring to your attention. 

 

            One of our high priority goals this year will be to enhance our use of data to better improve the quality of our instructional design and practice.  As such, we will be looking to use benchmark assessments at all grade levels throughout the year so that we can monitor the progress of each student as he/she develops specific academic skills for each subject.  These benchmark assessments will be given three times throughout the year, and they will not be used as a grading instrument.  Instead, this assessment data will be used as a tool for us to determine how we can adjust our instructional practices so as to meet the needs of our students.  We are confident that our students will benefit as we make this practice a high priority initiative for Haledon Public School this year. 

 

            I will be sending out communication within the next few weeks to detail exactly how we will implement the benchmark data programs, how you will be kept aware of your child’s benchmark skills progress, and how we will use this data to provide your child with a better overall educational experience at HPS within the next few weeks. 

 

            Again, I am very excited about this coming school year, the direction we are headed at HPS, and the great things our students will accomplish this year.
